Math Tutoring

Alexander Garcia

When I was in the 5th grade I was in a program called the letter buddies and as an older student in the elementary school I was tasked to teach kindergarteners their ABC’s. I had a lot of fun with this, and I believe this is where my tutoring journey started. In high school, during my senior year, I would stay after school to study in my math teacher’s classroom and while I was still learning the subject of College Algebra, students would be directed to ask me for help if they were struggling. Fast forward about 3 years later in 2016, I was now starting my freshman year at Estrella Mountain Community College where I came across a note in the student union stating “Geometry Tutor Wanted”. I helped this student pass their math class and also sparked an interest in studying Mathematics. I later applied to work at the tutoring center of the community college where I spent about 4 years learning and improving my math and tutoring abilities. While still tutoring at the community college and after leaving I started working with students all across the country from various states and schools. It was challenging to adjust to different material given by different instructors, but this makes every interaction with students different and keeps things interesting.

Agustin Garcia Flores

Hey everyone! I’m Agustin, I am going into my senior year at Arizona State University as a physics major and mathematics minor. I have been tutoring for about two years, with most of it being done in college algebra, calculus, and physics. I love meeting new people and learning new things. Tutoring is definitely challenging but I love having moments of realization with students by my side.

Joseph Rihl

I am currently a junior studying Civil Engineering at Arizona State University. I have tutored at my local community college where I received an Associates in Science with an emphasis in engineering for over two years now. In these two years, I have helped tutor everything from pre-algebra to modern differential equations. Though I’ve found my favorite courses to tutor are college algebra, trigonometry, and calculus 1.

Working at the community college, I have come to tutor people of all ages, demographics, and backgrounds, and it has been my absolute pleasure guiding them to understanding their course material and ultimately helping them get a better grade in their math class. I pride myself on working with each student and finding out what ways I can present the material so as to maximize their understanding and comprehension and more importantly contribute to their retention of the material.
